Introduction
This is a powdered herbal supplement that’s meant to support concentration, alertness, and mental stamina. A statement on the product’s website further says that it contains adaptogens which may help in stress alleviation.
The nootropic buzzword is spreading like wildfire and everyone including those in the beauty industry have taken interest in it.
The LA-based Moon Juice company which is well known for producing beauty products is one of the latest entrants into this market with its Brain Dust product. And so far, this brain-booster seems to be attracting mixed reviews its 3.5-star rating on Amazon speaking volumes of the bitter-sweet love it has so far received from its customers.
Before you decide whether to give it a try or not, we’d like to briefly share our opinion on it. And for that, we’ll focus on things like its ingredients, effects, taste, scientific-proof and so forth.
Moon Juice Brain Dust Overview
Just in case you didn’t know, adaptogens fall under a special category of supplements that have been scientifically studied and proven to improve response to stressors. In this study appearing on PubMed, adaptogenic benefits were described as follows “increase the state of non-specific resistance in stress” and “decrease sensitivity to stressors.”
Simply put, when you take an adaptogen-rich supplement, you boost your stress protection and increase your ability to resist strain. In other words, you’d be in a better position to control your mood.
Further, you would also be able to function well and remain calm even when you’d otherwise be exhausted (physically and mentally).
What Are The Ingredients
But there’s a catch, for you to experience all those effects with an adaptogen supplement, its specific ingredients need to meet certain standards and quantities. For instance, for you to get any meaningful benefits from Rhodiola Rosea, you need around 50mg of it per serving. Likewise, you need about 500mg of Lion’s mane.
The problem with Brain Dust is that the manufacturer hides all the ingredient quantities in a proprietary blend. So, we can’t tell whether they have used adequate quantities of the key ingredients or not. This lack of transparency makes us prefer to take a rather cautious approach toward a product that, on the surface, looks nearly perfect.
To better understand this brain-health supplement, we needed to take a closer look at each of its key ingredients. Inside the brown bottle are the following:
- Lion’s Mane – This is a traditional mushroom commonly used in Chinese medicine. It is believed to improve brain development and slow down cognitive decline.
- Astragalus Root – There are no major studies to back its perceived benefits. That said, it is commonly used to treat fatigue alongside respiratory issues.
- Rhodiola Root – This is a well-known adaptogenic root. It helps improve stress resistance, enhance attention and build stamina.
- Macca Root – This isn’t really a top nootropic although it is generally recommended for boosting physical stamina and mental energy. Some people use it as an alternative for coffee.
- Gingko Biloba – This is yet another one of the well-known adaptogens. It may help improve your ability to fight stress. It has, for a long time, been used to treat memory loss and issues related to lack of concentration.

Potential Effects
To be honest this is not one of those supplement powders that work like magic. Just so we are clear, Brain Dust isn’t a big jolt in the way coffee would jack you up. In our view, it’s more along the lines of clean energy that keeps you refreshed for 2 to 3 hours or so.
Unlike coffee, this powder does not leave you with a crash. It simply wears off without you even knowing it.
Who Takes It
If you like experimenting with nootropic products and don’t mind a slight “acquired taste,” this one is for you. You can try mixing it with your smoothies to try and the taste although some of those who have tried that still ended up saying that the taste was pretty hard to get down even with cacao and nut milk masks.
How to Take It
The directions for using it are simple and straight-to-the-point. Add 1 teaspoon to your favorite beverage, smoothie or plain water. That said, we wouldn’t recommend mixing it with fermented beverages as it causes a crazy reaction which might create a mess in your kitchen or office desk.
Where to Buy It
It’s available both on Amazon and the company’s official website. You can get it for a few bucks cheaper if you buy it from the official website and select the “Subscribe and Save” option. However, you have to be aware that the “Subscribe and Save” option means that you’re committing to monthly shipments of the product.

Final Thoughts
To some extent, the ingredients of this stack make sense. But if you’re an avid coffee user and looking for something that can help you become zoned for the task ahead, this might not stun you. That said, Brain Dust would be a great choice for long-term brain health benefits such as better memory and enhanced capability to deal with stressors.
